The Provo, Utah Missionary Training Center (MTC)

Hey guys!  The first week at the in-person MTC has been totally awesome! Everyday is filled to the brim with the Spirit! I love my district and my companion, they make the MTC a lot more fun!  The main focus of this week is to grind the Tagalog language, which is super hard. We have about 6-7 hours of language study a day, usually with a teacher. But Monday-Friday of this week, we will be left without a teacher most of the time haha. This is due to a lack of Tagalog teachers, and that the teachers we do have are starting school and not able to teach a lot. This makes the Language even more challenging to learn. We have a book with all of the grammar principles and vocabulary, but other than that we are pretty much on our own this week.  This being said, my companion and I have made some pretty hefty goals. The first is to memorize at least 65 new words a day. Next is to memorize 60 new phrases a week. To always SYL or Speak Your Language. And finally to be able to teach e...

Headed to the Provo, Utah MTC

Isaac left this morning for the Provo, Utah MTC. He will be there until the end of September after which he will fly out to the Philippines. When he arrived in Salt Lake City, he was picked up by Eli and shown around town. They went to several Church Sites around Salt Lake and took him to lunch. He then spent the night with some of our family in Utah before going to the MTC the following morning.

Home Missionary Training Center (MTC)

Elder Morgan started At-Home MTC. On his Preparation Day (P-Day) he drove down to Oceanside to see his cousins. On Thursday, 4 days into his At Home MTC experience, what we thought was a cold, turned into a full-blown case of Mono! He had trouble eating, drinking and talking, which made the MTC experience a little challenging. On Saturday morning, he woke us up at 6:00 am and told us he was having trouble breathing. We took him to the Emergency Room, where he tested positive for Mono. They gave him a heavy dose of steroids, antibiotics and lots of fluids. They wanted to keep him overnight, but he was anxious to come home, so he promised to take it easy and to take all his meds. After losing 24 pounds, Isaac was finally able to eat his first full meal on Wednesday.   On Saturday afternoon, Elder Morgan joined the other missionaries in our Ward for the baptism of Kirby, a new member of our Ward.

Getting Set Apart as a Missionary

Today, President Johnson, our Stake President, came to our home to give Isaac a blessing and set him apart as a missionary to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people in the Philippines Naga Mission. Here are some pictures.
