Headed to Naga City

Hello all, Hey, it has been a little while haha. I have decided, after many requests from my mother, that it is about time I send another email about our missionary work here in the Philippines:). I think the last time I wrote an email was in october of last year, so let me catch you guys up. I was transferred in the middle of January to Naga City, the biggest city in our mission. I have been here ever since and am truly enjoying the city life! My companion, Elder Semilla, is an experienced missionary and probably one of my favorites. He is always rocking a smile and whipping out a joke, keeping the work lively. Speaking of the work, we have been seeing some great success here! I actually wanted to share what has happened just within this last week with you all. This week we have been lucky enough to have 2 baptisms! The first, Sister Rhim, and the second, Sister Jonna. Here are their stories: Sister Rhim has been taught by the missionaries for 8 years. She has been coming to church pr...

Dalawang pogi

Hey hey. This week has been awesome! Here's why... We were lucky enough to have held a service project at the local police station. It went great. We cleaned their alleyway and they gave us snacks. I guess it was a win win. We then got to celebrate the good ole 1 year mark with barbecue and root beer floats. Which is quite limited here in the Philippines. Following the celebration, we had Zone Conference. I loved it! We focused on the difference between a testimony and conversion. And how we can help our interested people become converted unto the Lord. Zone Conference was then followed with exchanges. It was me and another american. His name is Elder Barzee. He is an awesome guy, and an even better missionary. We ended up finding a lot of new people to teach. While on exchanges, we went to dinner right. As we were eating we hear someone yell from behind us "marhay na banggi po sa inyong dalawang pogi" which in english translates too "good evening to you two handsome...

Service and Love

The mission has been amazing! Here are some key points. So, We have been trying a new way of missionary work. We have been focusing on building relationships and trust through love and service. Because of this we have met so many new people who are ready for the Gospel of Jesus Christ in their lives. One of those is Sister Maricar. She is the best! We met her in Kinahulogan, her home town, and noticed she needed some help. She is 8 months pregnant, lives on the top of a mountain, and her husband has just left her. She has a 2 year old son and does everything around the house, fetching water from the well, washing clothes by hand, and much much more. But, if its raining she can't do any of this. It's too slippery to go outside. So, after finding this out, we got to work. Threw off the neck ties and started shoveling. An hour later she had a brand new set of stairs leading down to a safer path. Through this experience, we where able to get to know her really good. After a little ...

The Land of Temptation

Hey Y'all!  This week has been awesome! I have finally met my son! His name is Elder Jacinto from Tarloc. His native language is Ilokano, which I am dedicated to learn haha. That would make my 4th new language in the mission. Tagalog, Rinconada, Bikol, and hopefully Ilokano! But he is really a cool guy. We have been having tons of fun already! And even better I got to spend two days in the "Land of Temptation" in order to pick him up! We here in Philippines Naga Mission have a saying that Naga City is the "Land of Temptation." This is due to the many possibilities in Naga. There are super big malls, kinda like the ones in America, McDonalds, Theaters, Golfing... the list goes on and on. And it is the only area in our mission that has all of that. And needless to say there happen to be a lot of disobedient missionaries in Naga haha... i was a little nervous to see what would happen. I had heard some pretty crazy stories about Naga City. But our work there actuall...

I’m Going To Be A Dad!

Hello everyone! I hope all is going amazing! I'm sorry its been a while since my last email. I will try to better in the future. This week has been so amazing! We have really been focusing on finding new people to teach.  Our area is so so beautiful, and the people are so so friendly. But when it comes to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, they recently haven't been to keen on listening in. So this week we have been finding and finding and finding... and guess what! No one wanted to listen. So we are going to try and do it again this week:)  This week I also had a great opportunity to see some of my favorite members from my first area! The Oliva family. They happened to be in Goa while I was holding a Baptismal Interview. And somehow we saw each other in the middle of Sentro. They invited us over for dinner and of course we joined them haha. But I found out that one of their family members who I taught had been baptized! It was such a happy moment! She told me all about her...

Party + Party = No Sleep!

Hey Y'all!  Hope all is going well. This week has been awesome! It has been fiesta time in our area, Panagan, and it has been a blast. There have been singing contests, dance showdowns, and even a Miss Gay Pageant! Lets get into it. This week started out with a Mission Tour, a big meeting with all the missionaries in our mission, in Naga city. We were blessed to have Elder Bangeter, one of the General Authorities in our church, visit our mission. It was such a spiritual day and helped me realized that in our actions we see miracles. As we continue to have faith in Jesus Christ, and continue to follow him we will see the miracles, and the blessing in our life. I know this to be true. I have seen it time and time again whilst here on the mission. And while in Naga, we had a little time to spare before the meeting. So, we went exploring! As we were stalking the streets of what appeared to be a ghetto version of Japan. We saw it... MCDONALDS. At this point I have not had the luxury of ...

A Typhoon in the Middle of Summer!

Hey yall!  What an absolute amazing week it has been! It has been filled with funny stories and crazy experiences. We started off this week having a great day of missionary work. We were teaching and serving the amazing people of the Philippines, when all of the sudden we got a call from the Zone Leaders. They told us a big Typhoon was on its way to hit our area... we were instructed to pack up for 3 days, and go to Lagonoy ( a bigger city outside of our area. ) We were told to not leave Lagonoy until instructed otherwise. So we didn't. As the night went on we were really expecting so to see a big typhoon start to take way, but it didn't happen. There was a little bit of rain fall and some wind but, that was it. The next day came by and there still was no typhoon... we were wondering what to do. Do we work? Do we go back to our area? We ended calling the Zone Leaders, and they said to stay in Lagonoy until everything had passed. So we stayed and worked in their area.  As a Dis...
