Headed to Naga City

Hello all,

Hey, it has been a little while haha. I have decided, after many requests from my mother, that it is about time I send another email about our missionary work here in the Philippines:). I think the last time I wrote an email was in october of last year, so let me catch you guys up.

I was transferred in the middle of January to Naga City, the biggest city in our mission. I have been here ever since and am truly enjoying the city life! My companion, Elder Semilla, is an experienced missionary and probably one of my favorites. He is always rocking a smile and whipping out a joke, keeping the work lively. Speaking of the work, we have been seeing some great success here! I actually wanted to share what has happened just within this last week with you all.

This week we have been lucky enough to have 2 baptisms! The first, Sister Rhim, and the second, Sister Jonna. Here are their stories:

Sister Rhim has been taught by the missionaries for 8 years. She has been coming to church pretty consistently for quite some time now and has a testimony that it is true. So the question I'm sure your all asking is why?. Why hasn't she been baptized yet? She hasn't been baptized due to marriage. Her and her boyfriend, already a member, have been living together with their 2 kids for the past 8 years and have not yet been married. For those who are not familiar, as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints we believe in something called the Law of Chastity, which basically means that marriage between a man and a women is ordained of God. In order for one to be baptized they must be living or following the Law of Chastity. So what changed? Why did she end up getting married after 8 years? Well to keep it in her words, "this time was different." As we taught her, we tried our best to focus on baptism and how the Law of Chastity was now the only thing keeping her away from the amazing blessings that come from be baptism. One time while at their house teaching, Sister Rhim said that she finally felt it. "For the past 8 years I have seen and heard why baptism was important, but only now I have finally felt of the importance of baptism in my heart." She was then married last monday 1 month after this experience, and baptized last saturday.

Sister Jonna on the other hand has been taught for just about 8 weeks. She was actual found through Jehovahs Witnesses! Apparently some Jehovahs Witnesses passed by and gave her a pamphlet about Christ, but they never went back. She, being very interested, asked a member of the church whom she knew, about us, the missionaries. She thought we were the ones who went by and gave her the pamphlet. The member then told us, and we were able to teach her right away. She then came to church that sunday, and the rest is history! It has been amazing to see how Christ was able to change her life for the better.

Anyways, hope you all liked the update.

He Made it to Naga! (and survived his first Typhoon)

Hey lovely parents!  We had a level 3 Typhoon here the other day, it was pretty cool, and scary. Luckily it didn't hit us directly. But there was a lot of rain and very, very strong wind. Also I have heard Naga gets hit with the hardest Typhoons, so it should be fun! Anyways, I leave tomorrow morning at 3:50 AM hopping on a plane to Naga. I think my P-Days will be switching to Monday, but I am still not sure. It will be fun to finally be in the mission, and to see the area. I've heard I have the best mission president out there, who I am excited to meet. I'm also excited to get my machete :) I love y'all very much and miss you! Talk to ya next week! -Isaac Dear Morgans, This is Sister Hansen. President and I are so happy to welcome Elder Morgan to the Philippines Naga Mission! He is well and just met his new companion. We just wanted you to know he arrived safely and that his P-days will be on Mondays. We love him already and look forward to serving with him here! Warml...

Dalawang pogi

Hey hey. This week has been awesome! Here's why... We were lucky enough to have held a service project at the local police station. It went great. We cleaned their alleyway and they gave us snacks. I guess it was a win win. We then got to celebrate the good ole 1 year mark with barbecue and root beer floats. Which is quite limited here in the Philippines. Following the celebration, we had Zone Conference. I loved it! We focused on the difference between a testimony and conversion. And how we can help our interested people become converted unto the Lord. Zone Conference was then followed with exchanges. It was me and another american. His name is Elder Barzee. He is an awesome guy, and an even better missionary. We ended up finding a lot of new people to teach. While on exchanges, we went to dinner right. As we were eating we hear someone yell from behind us "marhay na banggi po sa inyong dalawang pogi" which in english translates too "good evening to you two handsome...

A Typhoon in the Middle of Summer!

Hey yall!  What an absolute amazing week it has been! It has been filled with funny stories and crazy experiences. We started off this week having a great day of missionary work. We were teaching and serving the amazing people of the Philippines, when all of the sudden we got a call from the Zone Leaders. They told us a big Typhoon was on its way to hit our area... we were instructed to pack up for 3 days, and go to Lagonoy ( a bigger city outside of our area. ) We were told to not leave Lagonoy until instructed otherwise. So we didn't. As the night went on we were really expecting so to see a big typhoon start to take way, but it didn't happen. There was a little bit of rain fall and some wind but, that was it. The next day came by and there still was no typhoon... we were wondering what to do. Do we work? Do we go back to our area? We ended calling the Zone Leaders, and they said to stay in Lagonoy until everything had passed. So we stayed and worked in their area.  As a Dis...
