The Provo, Utah Missionary Training Center (MTC)

Hey guys!

The first week at the in-person MTC has been totally awesome! Everyday is filled to the brim with the Spirit! I love my district and my companion, they make the MTC a lot more fun!

The main focus of this week is to grind the Tagalog language, which is super hard. We have about 6-7 hours of language study a day, usually with a teacher. But Monday-Friday of this week, we will be left without a teacher most of the time haha. This is due to a lack of Tagalog teachers, and that the teachers we do have are starting school and not able to teach a lot. This makes the Language even more challenging to learn. We have a book with all of the grammar principles and vocabulary, but other than that we are pretty much on our own this week.

This being said, my companion and I have made some pretty hefty goals. The first is to memorize at least 65 new words a day. Next is to memorize 60 new phrases a week. To always SYL or Speak Your Language. And finally to be able to teach each lesson in the Preach My Gospel handbook in Tagalog in 2 weeks. And to be able to teach them good.

Other than the language, the MTC is filled with uplifting devotionals and speakers. We have devotionals every Tuesday and Sunday. This week was all about building up your Faith and The Atonement of Jesus Christ. These topics were the perfect topics to really dive into and learn more about during the first week. It helped me to realize just how important having Faith is. Faith is about putting all of your trust in the Lord and knowing that He will be there to help you. I have already experienced this, as I work as hard as I can in the language and in my personal studies, and strive to learn more. The Lord helps me more than I would have even imagined. I have learned more Tagalog in this 1 week than I have learned Spanish in the 2 years I took in High School. With the Lord's help my weaknesses become strengths.

Alrighty here is a little more info on the MTC! I share a dorm with 5 other missionaries. And we share the floor with at least 50-60 other missionaries. This means bathrooms and showers are always packed, and gross. Also it's a bunch of boys, so some people will be running around all crazy. While others will be having nerf wars, playing cards, wrestling, and working out. There is also lots of junk food and snacks everywhere.

Next is the cafeteria. The food may be the most mediocre food ever made except for the chicken and waffles; those were a 10/10 on the MTC food scale. We can have ice cream and cake and all sorts of treats any time of the day, also the Elders love the chocolate milk which makes for good smelling dorms! But yeah that is just about it for the week! Working hard to learn the Language and to learn more about my savior is taking up most if not all of my time, and I totally LOVE IT!

He Made it to Naga! (and survived his first Typhoon)

Hey lovely parents!  We had a level 3 Typhoon here the other day, it was pretty cool, and scary. Luckily it didn't hit us directly. But there was a lot of rain and very, very strong wind. Also I have heard Naga gets hit with the hardest Typhoons, so it should be fun! Anyways, I leave tomorrow morning at 3:50 AM hopping on a plane to Naga. I think my P-Days will be switching to Monday, but I am still not sure. It will be fun to finally be in the mission, and to see the area. I've heard I have the best mission president out there, who I am excited to meet. I'm also excited to get my machete :) I love y'all very much and miss you! Talk to ya next week! -Isaac Dear Morgans, This is Sister Hansen. President and I are so happy to welcome Elder Morgan to the Philippines Naga Mission! He is well and just met his new companion. We just wanted you to know he arrived safely and that his P-days will be on Mondays. We love him already and look forward to serving with him here! Warml...

Dalawang pogi

Hey hey. This week has been awesome! Here's why... We were lucky enough to have held a service project at the local police station. It went great. We cleaned their alleyway and they gave us snacks. I guess it was a win win. We then got to celebrate the good ole 1 year mark with barbecue and root beer floats. Which is quite limited here in the Philippines. Following the celebration, we had Zone Conference. I loved it! We focused on the difference between a testimony and conversion. And how we can help our interested people become converted unto the Lord. Zone Conference was then followed with exchanges. It was me and another american. His name is Elder Barzee. He is an awesome guy, and an even better missionary. We ended up finding a lot of new people to teach. While on exchanges, we went to dinner right. As we were eating we hear someone yell from behind us "marhay na banggi po sa inyong dalawang pogi" which in english translates too "good evening to you two handsome...

A Typhoon in the Middle of Summer!

Hey yall!  What an absolute amazing week it has been! It has been filled with funny stories and crazy experiences. We started off this week having a great day of missionary work. We were teaching and serving the amazing people of the Philippines, when all of the sudden we got a call from the Zone Leaders. They told us a big Typhoon was on its way to hit our area... we were instructed to pack up for 3 days, and go to Lagonoy ( a bigger city outside of our area. ) We were told to not leave Lagonoy until instructed otherwise. So we didn't. As the night went on we were really expecting so to see a big typhoon start to take way, but it didn't happen. There was a little bit of rain fall and some wind but, that was it. The next day came by and there still was no typhoon... we were wondering what to do. Do we work? Do we go back to our area? We ended calling the Zone Leaders, and they said to stay in Lagonoy until everything had passed. So we stayed and worked in their area.  As a Dis...
