Starting in Cotnogan

Hey y'all!

I am finally in the field! The area I was assigned to is Cotnogan and it is known and the jungle zone! It is soooo green and beautiful here! It is also one of the poorer areas in my mission. And it is super sad to see the living conditions. A lot of the houses are made from bamboo and wood, with not electricity and running water. I have been taking a lot of bucket showers and having to wipe with my hand, if you know what i mean, which I am still trying to get used to! Our apartment is actually a pretty nice one compared to others. But it is still invested with a lot of bugs and animals haha. It is actually quite gross! But the people of Cotnogan are so so kind and awesome, even though I have not been able to understand or speak to basically all of them haha. I am the first white person in Cotnogan since 2 years ago! So everybody waves, smiles and shouts "Hey Joe" or "He's Too White!" They call every American Joe haha. At first, a lot of the young children were scared of me, but I am starting to get their trust. We play games with them, and show them magic! Now some of them will give me High Fives! Everybody laughs at me when I try to speak Tagalog for them. So I just try to laugh along haha. I still have a long, long way to go before I will be able to communicate with everyone. Also all the people here speak Rinconada a branch of language from Tagalog. So I am trying to learn Rinconada as well. There are a ton of different animals here, like cows, goats, dogs...which are all so skinny and small. But the spiders here are HUGE! And very scary! The biggest one I have seen so far was probably about the size of my whole hand. And it was right outside of my apartment! The first week has been a lot of culture shock and just getting used to the living conditions. It is very, very hot here and I have been dripping from head to toe in sweat since I have gotten here, I have also been getting a lot of heat rashes and stuff like that. But since we walk every where sometimes we are able to walk under some shaded trees which is nice haha. The food here is super good and flavorful, a little spicy too. But my Companion Elder Anor is teaching me how to cook adobo, denola and other traditional Filipino foods. That is it for this week! See you next week!

He Made it to Naga! (and survived his first Typhoon)

Hey lovely parents!  We had a level 3 Typhoon here the other day, it was pretty cool, and scary. Luckily it didn't hit us directly. But there was a lot of rain and very, very strong wind. Also I have heard Naga gets hit with the hardest Typhoons, so it should be fun! Anyways, I leave tomorrow morning at 3:50 AM hopping on a plane to Naga. I think my P-Days will be switching to Monday, but I am still not sure. It will be fun to finally be in the mission, and to see the area. I've heard I have the best mission president out there, who I am excited to meet. I'm also excited to get my machete :) I love y'all very much and miss you! Talk to ya next week! -Isaac Dear Morgans, This is Sister Hansen. President and I are so happy to welcome Elder Morgan to the Philippines Naga Mission! He is well and just met his new companion. We just wanted you to know he arrived safely and that his P-days will be on Mondays. We love him already and look forward to serving with him here! Warml...

Dalawang pogi

Hey hey. This week has been awesome! Here's why... We were lucky enough to have held a service project at the local police station. It went great. We cleaned their alleyway and they gave us snacks. I guess it was a win win. We then got to celebrate the good ole 1 year mark with barbecue and root beer floats. Which is quite limited here in the Philippines. Following the celebration, we had Zone Conference. I loved it! We focused on the difference between a testimony and conversion. And how we can help our interested people become converted unto the Lord. Zone Conference was then followed with exchanges. It was me and another american. His name is Elder Barzee. He is an awesome guy, and an even better missionary. We ended up finding a lot of new people to teach. While on exchanges, we went to dinner right. As we were eating we hear someone yell from behind us "marhay na banggi po sa inyong dalawang pogi" which in english translates too "good evening to you two handsome...

A Typhoon in the Middle of Summer!

Hey yall!  What an absolute amazing week it has been! It has been filled with funny stories and crazy experiences. We started off this week having a great day of missionary work. We were teaching and serving the amazing people of the Philippines, when all of the sudden we got a call from the Zone Leaders. They told us a big Typhoon was on its way to hit our area... we were instructed to pack up for 3 days, and go to Lagonoy ( a bigger city outside of our area. ) We were told to not leave Lagonoy until instructed otherwise. So we didn't. As the night went on we were really expecting so to see a big typhoon start to take way, but it didn't happen. There was a little bit of rain fall and some wind but, that was it. The next day came by and there still was no typhoon... we were wondering what to do. Do we work? Do we go back to our area? We ended calling the Zone Leaders, and they said to stay in Lagonoy until everything had passed. So we stayed and worked in their area.  As a Dis...
